Acneis a common dermatological condition characterized by the appearance of pimples, blackheads, pustules, or nodules — most often on the face, neck, back, or chest. It occurs when the sebaceous glands produce excess sebum, and it combines with dead skin cells and bacteria in the pores, causing local inflammation.
Although it is commonly associated with adolescence, acne can also affect adults, especially women in a hormonal or metabolic context.
Metabolically, acne can be influenced by:
- High insulin levels or insulin resistance
- Diets rich in refined carbohydrates and sugar
- Hormonal imbalances(ex: SOP)
Intermittent fasting, through its effects on insulin regulation and inflammation, can indirectly help reduce the severity of acne.
