Ozempic belongs to the class of drugs called GLP-1 agonists(glucagon-like peptide-1), which mimics the action of a natural hormone responsible for regulating blood glucose levels and controlling appetite. It slows gastric emptying and induces a prolonged feeling of satiety.
Although initially it was developed for diabetics, in higher doses (in the form of the drug Weg's) is also approved for the treatment of obesity.
Indications:
- Type 2 diabetes
- Weight loss (only under medical supervision)
Administration:
1 subcutaneous injection per week, with dosage gradually increased as directed by a doctor.
Warnings:
It is not recommended as a “quick” weight loss solution for healthy people. Requires a prescription. It can cause side effects such as nausea, constipation, abdominal pain, rarely pancreatitis.
