FMD is short for The Fasting-Mimicking Diet, that is, “diet that imitates fasting.”Conceived by researchers like Valter Longo, FMD involves consuming a low calorie intake (800—1100 kcal/day), with very little protein, healthy fats and controlled carbohydrates, for 5 consecutive days.
Although it does not involve complete fasting, FMD activates many of the beneficial mechanisms of fasting: autophagy, lowering insulin, reducing inflammation, and cell regeneration.
It is often used for metabolic prevention or anti-aging purposes.
