Apnea is a respiratory disorder characterized by repeated stops of breathing during sleep, with each episode lasting at least 10 seconds.
The most common form is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), caused by the collapse of the muscles of the throat and temporary obstruction of the airways.
This condition can lead to decreased blood oxygen levels, fragmented sleep, chronic fatigue, insulin resistance, increased cortisol, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Intermittent fasting and weight loss can significantly reduce the severity of apnea, especially in cases related to obesity and chronic inflammation.
